Stephens Moves To Recyclable Trays19/3/2019 Each year it Is estimated that over 1.3billionCPET(Crystalline Polyethylene Terephthalate ) Black Trays are used for packaging in the UK Food Industry, in particular ready meal packaging, despite many being fully recyclable, it is however not possible to effectively sort them from other materials at a materials recovery or plastic recycling facility o therefore the trays get sent to landfill or incineration. The reason for this is that the main pigment used to colour the black plastic, carbon black, is not detectable by the rear infrared (NIR) optical sorting equipment, because it does not allow the light to pass through. Stephens have made the decision to move to clear plastic trays, which are fully recyclable and detectable as of 1st May 2019 as part of our ongoing commitment to responsible recycling, this move will also benefit our customers to recycle effectively.
